Two Exciting Renovation Projects
The Friends of Sydney Garden are currently fundraising to renovate two major areas within the park.
The first priority is to reopen a large area of the park closed to the public called the Compound. The Compound houses a very rare and unusual historic feature - the only remaining Supper Box in England. The Supper Box can be seen on the far right of the picture of the Holburne Museum below. Supper Boxes were he precursor of the modern public restaurants and in Georgian England were popular places to eat throughout the day. The Supper Box is a ruin which needs to be stabilised to stop any further deterioration.
This area was originally included in the scope of the Heritage Lottery Project but was unable to be completed due to a lack of funds. We are working collaboratively with both the Council Parks Department and the Friends of the Holburne Museum to raise enough funds to preserve the Supper Box for future generations.

Our second priority is to clear out and renovate the two parts of the Reservoir at the top of the park. The Reservoir predates the park and used to supply water to the Pulteney Estate and to Laura Place fountain. The stonework surrounding the Reservoir needs to be strengthened and a new, stronger iron railings need to be installed.
