Objectives

1. Sydney Gardens should remain in public ownership without any Trust management structure.

Being such a valuable community asset, Sydney Gardens must remain in public ownership with the local community having a strong voice in the Gardens' governance and management. In return, the community must be prepared to contribute to the Gardens' care and maintenance.
2. There should be no material adverse change in the character of Sydney Gardens.

Sydney Gardens is unique; being a large park with beautiful gardens, providing sports facilities, access to the canal and views of the railway, in a setting with a rich and colourful heritage just a few minutes walk from Bath's city centre. It is a place where people of all ages can come together and be free to enjoy all that Sydney Gardens has to offer as best suits them. Community organised events should be in keeping with the history and character of the gardens and contibute to a wider enjoyment of the features. Such events should and not impede others' enjoyment or access.
3. Sydney Gardens and its facilities must be maintained to a good standard whilst protecting the Gardens' native wildlife.

Sydney Gardens should be maintained to a standard appropriate to their status. Trees and garden beds that have been lost should be restored. Facilities and services may be provided that are key to the enjoyment of the Gardens' visitor.
4. Sydney Gardens' heritage should be protected and its history shared.

Sydney Gardens has a fascinating history that should be explored and shared. Items of heritage should be protected with original features being restored where they are relevant to todays' users. As far as possible, changes and enhancements to Sydney Gardens should be in keeping with these original features. The history of the gardens should be explained and shared with the Gardens' visitors.
